It is a WoG map so many things can have a different layout, because it can be done
Armored cavalry can counter attack, yes, thats why they will be the strongest unit in the game (if used well)
A few mines were replaced by other objects. It is my fault as I played HoMM3 for 10 years and got bored with well known objects. However it should not disturb you too much, just click on them to see what they are.
Sharpshooters are level 2 yes.
At the hill forts you can upgrade and reupgrade all the castle creatures. Just look in the abilities panel to see the difference between upgrades.
Example: lava sharpshooter have +500 attack vs Ancient Behemots/thunder birds and Titans/naga queens
His upgrade, the arctic sharpshooter will have +500 attack vs Archdevils/effrets and Hydras/wiverns.
So when barbarians attack you with titans etc you have the option to keep lava SS so have a deadly attack vs them.
If barbarians attack you with Archdevils you have the option to upgrade lava SS to Arctic SS to kill Archdevils faster. Then you can reverse the upgrade.
It makes the battle more versatile, as you will get attacked by 6+ different armies each week. In my game I never had to upgrade anything at the hill fort, because I always had a good defence. But just in case you are caught with pants down by the invaders, you can win a hard battle with few troops but well upgraded.
You dont need to upgrade Angels to black dragons. But there will be one battle later where you will have to. You will receive a message about and why.
Edit: the experience feature is different from other maps. Experience can not be gained from battles. So some creatures will have a special ability when at 0 experience but the ability will dissapear if any experience occur. In this way I can control 60+ battles on the map and customize 80+ creatures.
Example: Antichrist can cast armageddon if at 0 experience. but not at 12000. When you fight them in early game, I script them to have 12000 so they will be easier. Later in game, I want harder fights against them. So I script their experience in the way that they will have more abilities enabled. Conclusion, the same creature will have different stats regardless where you are in the story advance.
The nightmares have +5 retaliation at 0 Exp. Because you will always be at 0 experience. Did not bother to add retaliation at higher levels just because you will never have it...so it is not a bug.
What is a pet? A new script from chinese mapmakers? Never heared about. I want it!
