　Cyndi Lauper 是早期MTV时代的超级巨星之一，她那清脆的少女嗓音和无忧无虑的快乐形象，成为 80 年代初最具有特色的形象之一，是众多时尚女孩纷纷仿效的对象。在她的音乐中，则包括了新浪潮、后朋克、雷鬼音乐、流行歌曲和放克音乐。可以说 Cindy Lauper 的音乐和言行，都促进了朋克新浪潮在美国流行音乐中的融合。
　　1983年Cindy Lauper的处女作《She Is So Unusual》一经推出，销量就高达500万张，其中包括“Girls Just Want To Have Fun”及“Time After Time”在内的4首歌曲，曾高居排行榜的前10名。这次的成功让 Cyndi Lauper 成为公众瞩目的明白，但她并没有就此止步。1986 年 Cyndi Lauper 推出了她的第二张专辑《True Colors》，同样为她赢得了巨大的成功，同名主题歌更是高居榜首，专辑则名列排行榜的第 4 并获得白金销量。但有得必有失，Cyndi Lauper 在这张专辑中尝试转变的成熟而松弛舒适的嗓音，也令她失去了一部分歌迷。
　　如许多经典好歌百唱不厌一样，“True Colors”这首歌曲也成了众多歌星翻唱的目标，其中就包括乐坛经典人物 Phil Collins，与 Cindy Lauper 略带野性，摇滚的味道的演唱相比，Phili Collins 的演绎则显得柔情万种。
