1952年生於 New Jersey 的她，由於從小經常隨著從事軍職的父親到處調動而換學校，為了拉近跟新同學的距離，她開始學音樂、彈吉他、唱民歌。高中畢業後，她獨自離家前往北加州念大學，並且在酒吧打工賣唱來補貼生活費。老闆要求她演唱鄉村歌曲來迎合客人的喜好，但是由於她成長的東岸地區幾乎根本沒有人聽鄉村歌曲，所以她感到很困擾。不過，老闆既然都開口了，她也只好硬起頭皮，抱著一疊鄉村專輯回家，自己跟著唱片摸索當一個鄉村女歌手的竅門，逐漸發展出一種介於鄉村、搖滾和一般流行歌曲之間的路線，並且自己組成了 Silver Spurs樂隊，甚至開始推出唱片，可惜一連四張專輯都反應平平。

1981年，她遇見了 Richard Landis，由他擔任經理和製作人，推出了Juice 專輯，並以其中翻唱的 Angel of The Morning 一夜成名，另外的單曲 Queen of Hearts 和 The Sweetest Thing 也都打進了流行榜的前十名。1982年，Quiet Lies 專輯更使她奪得 Grammy Awards 和鄉村音樂學院的最佳鄉村女歌手大獎，以及Billboard的1982年最佳專輯藝人獎。

Juice Newton 最擅長的是充滿深刻感情的抒情歌謠曲，尤其是老歌的翻唱。在唱片封套上，她總是目光憂鬱，看起來無比的沈靜，但舞台上的她卻是完全不同的，不但造型亮麗，風格也極具活力。她特立獨行，充滿自信、也不怕失敗。不過可惜的是，到了80年代中期之後，她就逐漸從市場上消失了，留給歌迷們無比的懷念。
